ADRIENNE BABA
email: adriennebaba@mac.com

Adrienne Baba first became interested in pottery while working in Japan
in the 1970's. She studied under Tokyo potter Tanaka Hiroshi until she
left Japan in 1983.
Her present studio is in Bloxh
am where she produces
contemporary Japanese style tableware. The pots are thrown or
slab-built in stoneware. Decorative techniques include impressing cloth
into soft slabs, painting on coloured slip, sometimes incising through
this to reveal the colour of the clay underneath, inlaying with
coloured clay and facetting. They are fired to 1260 º centigrade in an
electric kiln.
The pieces can equally well be used for serving Japanese
or Western food.
