JENNY
HASSAN Jenny uses papier mache to create sculptures by building layer upon layer of paper. Maps, stamps, gift-wrap, books and magazines are used to decorate the work. Photographs of supermodels and photocopies of paintings are used for the facial features of her figures and this gives them a distinct personality. By juxtaposing these details what is deemed beautiful in fashion magazines is often transformed into something bordering on the bizarre. Her work has a painterly effect since the very nature of papier mache enables her to use the sculptural form as a pictorial surface. Since her figures can adopt distinct personalities, she has made a number of commissions for weddings, anniversaries and birthdays. |
