Sidney Hardwick was born in Ontario and educated as a chemist in
British Columbia. She trained as a potter in England.
Her work is mostly thrown on a wheel, where she makes wash basins,
soup tureens, bowls and lamp bases, mugs and jugs, as well as sundials,
bird baths and frost-proof pots for plants.
She uses stoneware
clay fired in a reducing atmosphere, to 1280°C. This process
produces blues, greens and copper red glazes as well as the more
usual greys.
Sidney shows
with Ten potters regularly and with the Oxfordshire Craft Guild.
The Waterperry Gallery, near Wheatley, Oxfordshire also shows her
work.
