Tam began potting in earnest after her sons gave her a wheel as an early retirement present. For several years she has attended the ceramics course at Buckinghamshire and Chilterns University College on an ad hoc basis. There she has been able to explore glaze making and extend her throwing skills.

Her pieces are made on the wheel using stoneware clay. One of the great pleasures of this process is the thought that the pieces she produces will become part of the everyday lives of others. Shape and line are the prime considerations when she designs a piece, so surface decoration is kept to a minimum.
