Kirstie graduated with a First Class Honours
Degree in Ceramics in 1998. Kirstie slab builds with clay, often
applying textures for surface detail as she only glazes the insides
of all forms. This enables her to maintain the quality of her chosen
clay on the outside of her products while making the inside water
tight and food safe. This more natural look comes from her inspiration
of the landscapes in which she has travelled (Canada, Alaska and
Iceland) while the forms take on shapes from the natural world.
Kirstie also develops all of her own glazes making them unique to
her products.
Kirstie
is also known for her silver clay jewellery. Silver Clay consists
of minute silver particles suspended in a clay like binder which
burns away during firing. The finished product is 99.9% silver.
This revolutionary form of silver enables Kirstie to print leaves
and stones into the clay to achieve her organic looking products.
